Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for awards applicants must:

  • be domiciled in an EU member state
  • be assessed as international for fee purposes

  • already have or expect to receive the equivalent of an upper second class UK honours degree or above for postgraduate awards and a minimum of AAB at A level or equivalent for undergraduate awards

We aim to attract students from all sectors whose organisations or role directly addresses or contributes to challenging one of the key UN Sustainable Development Goals. The diversity of our cohort is central to our philosophy of a challenging and developmental learning space for all our students and to reflect the regional social and economic landscape in the North East. We are particularly keen to attract candidates from under-represented groups such as those from Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Communities.  The Scholarships will reward candidates who have the potential to empower, motivate and provide direction in their context.

We are offering progression scholarships of ÂŁ6,000 for applicants of the Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship leading to a PG Dip in Management Studies.  The progression scholarship is to support apprentices to achieve the Executive MBA qualification which sits outside the apprenticeship structure and therefore not accessible via the Apprenticeship Levy.

We offer a number of funded studentships throughout the year.

We offer a number of funded studentships throughout the year. Funding is available to UK, EU and international students. The type of funding available, the size of the award, the eligibility criteria and the application process varies.Funding at Faculty and University level

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Northern Ireland and North East Doctoral Training Partnership (NINE DTP) Studentship

There are two pathways relating to our subjects under the NINE DTP funding scheme:

  1. Economic and Social History Pathway (contact details of pathway leader: David.Higgins@ncl.ac.uk
  2. Management Business and Economics Pathway (contact details of pathway leader: jingxin.dong@ncl.ac.uk)

Economics and Finance studentships are open to all students regardless of their nationality. The studentships in the other subject areas are only open to UK or EU students. Visit the NINE DTP website for further details relating to eligibility.

The Arts and Humanities Research Council Northern Bridge Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership

Newcastle University is a member of the Northern Bridge Consortium which offers 67 fully funded studentships per year to outstanding postgraduate researchers across the full range of Arts and Humanities subjects. Peter and Nora Lomas PhD Scholarship in Economics

This scholarship was established in 2010 by economics alumnus, Peter Lomas (MA Economics, 1949) who donated ÂŁ1.6 million to fund PhD scholarships in Economics.

David Goldman PhD Scholarship

This scheme was established in 2001 to commemorate the life and work of David Goldman. He was the founder and chief executive of the North East’s iconic software company, the Sage Group plc. The scholarship is normally advertised on www.jobs.ac.uk
