What is AASYP Reset?

AASYP Reset is a virtual innovation challenge inviting recent graduates, current university students and young professionals of all disciplines across ASEAN and Australia to collaborate on projects that foster stronger people to people connections between youth in our region. 

Supported by the Australia-ASEAN Council, AASYP Reset aims to:

  • Encourage greater knowledge-sharing network-building
  • Foster cross-cultural and interdisciplinary collaboration 
  • Upskill and support youth in the region to develop and scale ideas that have potential to create long-term impact in their communities

AASYP Reset provides an opportunity for youth to develop their entrepreneurial capacity, build personal and professional connections and showcase their creativity and innovation to a diverse public audience.

Challenge Details

AASYP Reset consists of an online skills module, a sprint weekend and a final pitch event and will take place virtually in September and October 2020. The online skills module aims to provide participants with a foundational understanding of key design thinking methodologies.

Work in a team of between two to four people, registered participants will conduct research, apply design thinking approaches and reimagine new possibilities to enhance people to people relations between youth across Australia and the ASEAN region.

Who can register?

Registrations are open to all Australian and ASEAN nationals aged 18-29. We are looking for a diverse range of participants who are interested in developing their cross-cultural competencies and are passionate about strengthening people to people relations. We strongly encourage recent graduates, current students or young professionals or entrepreneurs in the early stages of your journey to get involved!

    • Do I need to have a team to register?No. While we encourage you to register in teams of 2-4 people, you can also sign up as an individual. We will try our best to match you with 2-3 people with diverse cultural and professional backgrounds
    • .Do I need to have coding skills?Not at all! We welcome ideas and projects from participants of all backgrounds, including creative arts and industries, communications and marketing, business, law and international relations, health, sciences, engineering and more. All you need to do is develop an idea and pitch it to the judging panel.Ā However, you are more than welcome to submit a prototype and/or video demonstration of your idea to be shortlisted as a finalist.
    • Ā Ā When will I be put in a team?Once registrations close on Sunday 13 September, we will send you an email to check that you are still interested in participating. When you confirm, we will try our best to put you in a team within 3-5 days so you can access the online skills module released on Monday 25 September.
    • Are we required to submit written reports or business plans?Not at all ā€“ teams will only need to submit a short 3 minute video to explain their idea by Sunday 4 October. When submitting, teams will need to complete a short form so that we have your names and contact information to follow up any issues. Judges will select finalist teams to pitch on Saturday 31 October.
    • Ā Is this event completely online?Yes! All of the sessions will be run online through Zoom and Slack. This is a collaborative workspace that will require you to use your desktop computer, camera and microphone.
    • Who owns the intellectual property to the ideas submitted?All ideas submitted during the challenge remain the intellectual property of the participants that developed them
