  • WHAT IS THE AAU INTERNATIONALISATION POOL?The funds of the AAU Internationalisation Pool are used to support enrolled students at AAU during their study or internship period abroad. A large part of the Pool’s funds is donated by Det Obelske Familiefond.The amount of the grants is calculated every year on the basis of the number of qualified applicants and the amount of the funding we received.The following students are not eligible for a grant from the Internationalisation Pool:
    • Students receiving a grant from Erasmus Mundus, Erasmus+ or the Nordplus programmes
       
    • Students going abroad without an exchange agreement
       
    • Students studying an SDC programme
       
    • Nor is financial support for study periods or internships in Denmark availableIn this page you can read all about how to apply and the requirements.
  • HOW TO APPLY AND THE DEADLINESREMEMBER TO APPLY FOR THIS GRANT BEFORE THE DEADLINE ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE NO DOCUMENTATION TO PRESENT. IT CAN BE FORWARDED.When you apply for a semester abroad (to study or do an internship) through International Office’s application system you automatically apply for a grant as well – provided that you apply within the deadline.The deadline is 1 March for stays in the autumn semester and 1 November for stays in the spring semester. APPLY FOR A GRANT FROM AAU INTERNALISATIONS POOL Do remember that is it very important to apply for a grant before the deadline to be eligible. You have to apply even though you may not know all the details and have all the required documents by this time.For traineeships/internships: Most likely you will not know where you will be going by the deadline for the grant application, however you should not worry about that, because as soon as you know, and upload documentation, we will place your application in the right pool: Erasmus+ (stays inside Europe) or the Internationalisation pool (stays outside Europe).You must upload the required documentation in the system as soon as possible and NO LATER  than 1 June for the autumn stays and 1 December for the spring stays.
  • THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTATIONThe following documents must be uploaded in International Office’s system by 1 June (autumn semester) and 1 December (spring semester).FOR STUDY ABROAD
    • An admission letter from the host institution abroad
       
    • An advance credit transfer from the Study Board at AAU.
      FOR INTERNSHIPS
    • An Internship contract from the company
    • Some study programmes require an advance credit transfer and then you need to submit an application to your study board. Please contact your study board if you are uncertain about if this applies to you.NB! You do not have to upload any documents when you first apply. You can always log in to the system again to upload documents.
  • ALL ABOUT THE RULES AND REGULATIONSIN ORDER TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS:
    • You are enrolled as a student at Aalborg University
       
    • You can get credit transfer for your study or internships period abroad (i.e. it is approved as an integral part of your study programme at AAU)
       
    • The duration of the stay is between 3 – 12 months
       
    • The scholarship is not used for tuition fees
       
    • Your study or internship period does not take place in Denmark.
       
    • Applicants who have completed at least two years of their study programme are given first priority. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTSInternational students who are enrolled at Aalborg University as full-time students will be allocated funds on equal terms with Danish students provided that they are enrolled at AAU to pursue a Bachelor, Master’s or Diploma degree from Aalborg University.Funds will only be allocated to study periods or internships in the foreign student’s home country if we have sufficient funding. REPAYMENTIf your study period or internship abroad is cancelled or terminated before completion, Aalborg University may reclaim the scholarship.If you cancel, postpone or terminate your stay abroad, you must notify the International Office.If you do not upload documentation for the completion of your stay, the scholarship may be reclaimed, as it is likely to assume that your stay abroad has not been completed.
  • AMOUNT AND DISBURSEMENTThe amounts mentioned below are approximates and for guidance only.If you are going abroad for a study period of one semester’s duration, you can get approximately DKK 7,000 for stays in Europe (except for Erasmus+ stays) and approx. DKK 9,000 for stays in the rest of the world (please note that the amounts are subject for change).The grant will be disbursed just before you are leaving or in the beginning of the semester you are abroad, provided that you have submitted the required documentation to the International Office.Upon your return you must upload documentation in the online system in the form of either a copy of the transcript of records or a reference letter from the internship company/organisation confirming the completion of your internship.The above must be submitted no later than one month after your return. It must be apparent from the documentation how many months your stay has lasted.If you do not upload documentation for the completion of your stay, the scholarship may be reclaimed, as it is likely to assume that your stay abroad has not been completed.Remember to apply in accordance with the deadlines otherwise your application will not be considered.

ERASMUS+ GRANT

  • WHAT IS AN ERASMUS+ GRANT?The Erasmus programme is an EU scholarship programme for EU students within all academic fields who wish to carry out parts of their education at another European institution of higher education or carry out an internship in another EU/EEA country.The scholarship is of minimum the same amount as what you would have been able to receive through the AAU Internationalisation Pool had you not been affiliated with a Erasmus programme.You can apply for an Erasmus+ grant:
    • If you are going to study abroad or do an traineeship in one of the countries participating in the Erasmus+ programme (not Denmark, Greenland or the Faroe Islands).
       
    • For study stays: It takes place with one of the partner universities with whom Aalborg University has signed an Erasmus+ exchange agreement.You apply for the Erasmus+ grant as a contribution to your expenses during your stay abroad.It is possible to go abroad with the Erasmus+ programme several times and to apply for a grant for every stay. You may be granted for maximum 12 month during your Bachelor’s degree and for maximum 12 months during your Master’s degree.Please note: that you cannot be granted from both the Erasmus+ programme and the AAU Internationalisation pool. THE RATES FOR ERASMUS+ STAYS ABROAD:The size of the grant depends on which country you are going to (based on the living costs in the specific country) and the length of your stay.The rates for the academic year 2020/21 are:RatesStudying abroadTraineeships abroadHigh470 Euros per month670 Euros per monthLow420 Euros per month620 Euros per month COUNTRIES – HIGH RATE:Ireland,  Finland, Sweden, the UK, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Iceland and Norway.

  • ALL ABOUT THE REQUIREMENTS, RULES AND CONDITIONSTHE REQUIREMENTS FOR ERASMUS STUDY ABROAD
    • You have completed at least the first year of your education, when your stay abroad begins
       
    • The duration of the stay is between 3 – 12 months
       
    • You must upload an advance credit transfer from your study board (i.e. it is approved as an integral part of your study programme at AAU) in International Office’s online system
       
    • The grant is not used for tuition fees
       
    • An Erasmus+ exchange agreement between the two institutions is available
       
    • An Erasmus+ Learning Agreement for studies has been signed and uploaded in International Office’s online system
       
    • You must move to the destination country during mobility period THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ERASMUS TRAINEESHIP ABROAD
    • You have completed at least the first year of your education, when your stay abroad begins
       
    • The duration of the stay is between 3 – 12 months (contact your study board regarding the minimum duration of your stay)
       
    • Your stay is an integrated part of your study programme at Aalborg University (if in doubt, please contact your board of studies)
       
    • An Erasmus+ Learning Agreement for Traineeships has been signed and uploaded in International Office’s online system by 1 June (for stays during autumn semester) and 1 December (for stays during fall semester)
       
    • You are a recent graduate of Aalborg University and you have settled your traineeship during your last year of study at Aalborg University INTERNATIONAL STUDENTSInternational students going to their home country can apply for a grant. However, we do prioritize students not going to their home country. Thus students bound for their home country are only awarded with a grant if we have sufficient funding. DISBURSEMENT OF THE GRANTIf you are awarded with a grant it will be disbursed in one installment in either January (for stays in the spring semester) and September (for stays in the Autum semester). ERASMUS+ ONLINE LINGUISTIC SUPPORTAll Erasmus+ student must complete a mandatory online language assessment both before (or in the beginning of) and after your period abroad. We will send you a link to the assessment to your AAU student e-mail.You have 30 days to complete the assessments both before and after the mobility period.You will not be eligible for the Erasmus+ grant if you do not fulfil the assessment within time.
  • THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTATIONYour application for a grant will be processed only when you have uploaded the required documentation in International Office’s online system.FOR ERASMUS+ STUDY STAYS:
    • If the traineeship is not an integrated part of your study: An advance credit transfer signed by your study board.
    • A signed Erasmus+ Learning Agreement for Traineeships (signed by you, the traineeship host and your supervisor).
    • If the company does not take out the required insurances for you, you must do so yourself and upload the insurance policy in International Office’s online system Do remember that is it very important to apply for a grant before the deadline to be eligible (1 March for the autumn semester /1 November for the spring semester). You have to apply even though you may not know all the details and have all the required documents by this time.You must upload the required documentation in the system as soon as possible and NO LATER  than 1 June for the autumn stays and 1 December for the spring stays.
  • DISBURSEMENT OF THE GRANTIf you are awarded with the Erasmus+ grant, it will be disbursed in one installment right before or in the beginning of the semester you are abroad, provided that you have meet the requirements.The entire grant will be transferred to your NemKonto (Easy Account) as a one-time payment.This means that the grant will not be paid in monthly rates. When the grant has been transferred to your NemKonto you will get a notification in your “e-boks”.If you are not sure whether you have a NEMkonto, please check with your bank. If your main bank account is registered as your NemKonto it is important that you do not send us the bank information.If you DON’T have a NemKonto please follow the instructions provided by the International Office.    
  • UPON YOUR RETURNAt the end of your Erasmus+ stay abroad there are a number of things to remember.You must upload the required documents in International Office’s online system.ERASMUS+ STUDY STAYS:
    • A copy of your Transcript of Records (from the foreign university) AND
    • Erasmus+ Learning Agreement – The ‘After the Mobility’ part must be signed by the foreign university right before your departure.ERASMUS+ TRAINEESHIPS:
    • Erasmus+ Learning Agreement – The ‘After the Mobility’ part must be completed and signed by the traineeship host right before the end of the traineeshipPlease upload the documentation as soon as possible and no later than one month after your return.All Erasmus+ students must also complete:
    • The second language assessment
    • The Erasmus+ participant report – Your Erasmus+ stay abroad will be registered in an EU Commission database and by the end of your stay abroad you are obligated to fill in an Erasmus+ participation report. The report will be sent electronically to your AAU student email.Please note: Students who fail to do as mentioned above may be required by International Office to partially or fully reimburse the Erasmus grant received. 
  • REIMBURSEMENT OF THE ERASMUS+ GRANTInternational Office has the right to partially or fully reimburse the Erasmus+ grant if:
    • You terminate the stay abroad before it is completed (as off the end date stated in your Learning Agreement). If any special circumstances occurs such as sickness or equivalent please contact the Erasmus+ coordinator Trine Nielsen
       
    • You do not upload the required documents upon your return (‘After the Mobility’ of your Learning Agreement and for study stays also the Transcript of Records).
       
    • You fail to fulfil the second Erasmus+ OLS language assessment in time.
       
    • You do not answer the survey ‘ Erasmus+ Participant Report’.

NORDPLUS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

HOW TO APPLY FOR A NORDPLUS SCHOLARSHIP

When you apply for a Nordplus study place with one of our partner universities you automatically apply for a grant – provided that you apply before the deadline: 1 March for stays in the Autumn semester and 1 November for stays in the Spring semester.

PLEASE REMEBER TO APPLY BEFORE THE DEADLINE ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE NO DOCUMENTATION TO PRESENT. IT CAN BE UPLOADED LATER ON.

The Nordplus programme is an exchange and scholarship programme under the Nordic Council of Ministers targeted at students at Nordic universities etc. who wish to carry out parts of their education at an institution of higher education in another Nordic country, i.e. Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland. Nordplus scholarships are intended to cover extra expenses in connection with a foreign stay and as a supplement to travel expenses. The allocated amount is approximately DKK 7,000 per semester for no more than one full year of studies.

In order to be eligible for a Nordplus scholarship, it is furthermore a requirement that AAU and the foreign educational institution have entered a cooperation agreement. AAU has entered such agreements with most of the Nordic universities within all academic fields. As to students within engineering and surveying, AAU has entered agreements with the other 14 Nordic universities of technology.

THE REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY ARE AS FOLLOWS;

  • Aalborg University and the host institution have entered a cooperation agreement
  • You can get credit transfer for your study period abroad (i.e. it is approved as an integral part of your study programme at Aalborg University)
  • Your study activities are full-time
