National of a developing country? Do you have a master’s degree?

Do you have professional experience and wish to deepen your skills in a development-related subject?

ARES master and internship grants offer you the opportunity to take a one-year specialization master’s degree or a 4 to a 6-month advanced training course at an establishment of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in Belgium.

Eligibility

In order for the application to be admissible, the candidate must:

  1. Either from a developing country. To be eligible, applicants must reside and work in their country at the time of submission;
  2. Only nationals of the following countries are allowed to apply for ARES scholarships: Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia ( only for training in English ), Haiti, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Peru, Philippines, DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Vietnam;
  3. Either less than 40 years old for courses, and less than 45 years old for internships , at the beginning of the training;
  4. Holds a diploma comparable to a second cycle degree in Belgian university education. However, for some courses, different requirements may be stated, which will then be specified below;
  5. Demonstrates a relevant professional occupation in a developing country at least two years after the end of the second cycle of university , or three years after graduation when the candidate holds a postgraduate degree by a university in an industrialized country;
  6. Have a good knowledge of written and spoken French. For courses organized in another language, it is necessary to have a good knowledge of the language of the course, written and spoken. The candidate will also be asked to commit to learning French in order to participate in everyday life in Belgium;
  7. Postulated for a single training .

Candidates must not first obtain admission to one of the French-speaking universities in Belgium to apply for ARES scholarships.

Benefits

Each year, ARES awards an average of 150 scholarships for masters for nationals of the South which cover:

  • International Travel Expenses -In economy class on an IATA company, maximum one round trip per academic year;
  • Subsistence allowance – 1150 EUR / month for a period of 12 months;
  • Indirect mission expenses – 150 EUR.  Amount awarded once per stay, upon arrival of the fellow;
  • Installation, didactic and return costs – 700 EUR.  Amount awarded once per stay, upon arrival of the fellow;
  • Registration fees – At the reduced rate for DGD Fellows;
  • Insurance costs – directly paid by the ARES;
  • Travel expenses for interuniversity training – Reimbursed on the basis of actual costs and vouchers.
