Organ:
The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) of the Union which deals mainly with ICT-focused development policies, strategies and programmes, as well as technical cooperation activities, to promote digital inclusion and drive digital transformation at community, country and regional levels. To effectively and efficiently serve the needs of ITU members, BDT is organized into four functional areas:Office of the Deputy to the Director and Field Operations Coordination DepartmentPartnerships for Digital Development DepartmentDigital Networks & Society DepartmentDigital Knowledge Hub Department
Organization Unit:
The Digital Networks & Society Department is responsible for BDT activities in the areas of spectrum management, network development, cybersecurity and emergency telecommunications. This department is also responsible for supporting ITU Member States in their transition to digital societies by providing tools and guidelines to address environmental challenges (in particular, climate change and e-waste), and for promoting innovation, ICT applications/services, digital inclusion and ecosystems, with the ultimate goal to ‘leave no one behind’.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities of the Internship
Under the supervision of the Digital Society Division, supporting the Digital Inclusion thematic priority lead and team members, the intern will gain experience in realization of the implementation of the ITU-D Youth Strategy related works and the organization of the WTDC-21 Youth Summit. Duties will include (but not limited to):Producing content related to youth engagement.Assisting in research, development, and implementation of the ITU-D Youth Strategy.Assisting in the organization of the WTDC-21 Youth Summit.Assisting with the coordination and management of the ITU youth task force.Assisting in coordinating inputs from ITU experts and staff.Actively assisting and contributing to the activities on youth engagement.
Competencies
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and produce good quality of reports and research. Familiarity with Youth Engagement would be an asset.
Qualifications required
Education:
High School Diploma or University degree in areas related to information and communication technologies. Other university degrees will be considered based on the areas of the research.
Experience:
No work experience required.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English for conducting research and producing documents (drafting and editing).
Additional Information:
The internship will be carried out remotely.

Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short-term or a Fixed-term position.
