Org. Setting and Reporting

Three internship positions are open in the Civil Society Unit (CSU), Office of the Director (OD), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna, Austria. The internships will start in January/February2022. All internships are for an initial period of four (4) months with the opportunity of an extension to six (6) months depending on the needs of the office.

Given the current situation due to COVID-19, interns who will be selected will start working remotely from their country of nationality/residence until such time that the COVID situation allows safe travel and in-person internship.

The internship is UNPAID and fulltime. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to:

• Contribute to the implementation of Programme GLOU68 “Engagement with Non-Governmental Stakeholders on Anti-Corruption, Drugs and Crime Prevention”, by participating in the various aspects of the projects’ cycles, including drafting concept notes, funding proposals, implementation and reporting;

 

• Attend and take notes at events/meetings/conferences;
• Assist in the preparation of the CSU activities and events;
• Conduct research;
• Perform other tasks as necessary.

assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

•Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation
(OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS SHOULD BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION)

•Be computer literate in standard software applications

•Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

•Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of Arabic, French and/or Spanish is an advantage.

United Nations Considerations

According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity. Candidates will not be considered for employment with the United Nations if they have committed violations of international human rights law, violations of international humanitarian law, sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, or sexual harassment, or if there are reasonable grounds to believe that they have been involved in the commission of any of these acts. Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.

In this context, all internationally recruited staff members shall be required to move periodically to discharge new functions within or across duty stations under conditions established by the Secretary-General.
