We offer year-round internship opportunities, at Tesla office locations around the world.

“My experiences as a Tesla intern are some that I will take with me for the rest of my career. I had the opportunity to tackle problems that were challenging, unique, and relevant—and within several weeks, I was trained to weigh in on decisions that would affect an entire production line.”
– Michaela

“Just the feeling of knowing that I helped to build a car that critics said couldn’t and wouldn’t exist, is a feeling that I wouldn’t trade for anything.”
– Andrew

Frequently Asked Questions

Internships are currently available in the US, Canada, Europe and parts of Asia. Each position will be posted within a specific region.

How do I apply?

Please apply online. Your application will be reviewed, and you will be contacted if there is interest in your candidacy. Please keep in mind that we receive a high volume of applications and may not be able to immediately follow up if there is not an applicable fit.

Does Tesla offer internships and co-ops?

Yes. We refer to everyone in this program as interns, regardless of length or term referred to by your school. When applying, you’ll see “internship” vs. “co-op” attached to the position.

You may also see apprenticeships which focus on specific skills and trades listed.

What time of the year does Tesla hire interns?

In the US, we hire three seasons per year (Spring/Winter, Summer and Fall). Internships can range from 3 to 12-month work terms based on our hiring needs.

For the Europe region, we have two big intakes that last between 5 and 6 months and start each September / October and January / February of each year, always following the academic calendar.

When do positions open for applications?

Each term is posted on a different schedule. The best time to apply is around the same time the positions are live. While it can vary, the recruiting cycle can last up to four months (sometimes later) from the date the position is posted.

  • Spring/Winter applications posted in early Fall the prior year
  • Summer applications posted in early or mid-Fall the prior year
  • Fall applications posted in early Spring/Winter the same year

How will I know if I wasn’t selected?

Due to the high volume of applications, you may not hear from us immediately. We will close the postings when our recruiting cycle has concluded.

Can I apply in the future?

If you meet the eligibility requirements, there is no limit to how many times you can apply. We absolutely encourage this.

Can I apply for more than one role?

Yes. Please review each position before applying and make sure your experience aligns with the requirements.

What do interns work on?

Interns can work on a variety of projects to help advance the company’s mission. The recruitment process aims to match students with teams and projects that best fit their areas of interest and experiences. Assignments range based on the company’s current hiring needs, but most often include critical projects and hands-on involvement. We expect our students to perform at the same caliber of excellence as any of our employees.

Do interns get hired back full-time?

Yes. Based on Tesla’s current hiring needs and the student’s proven performance, we have many interns who return in a full-time role. This is intended to be a talent pipeline program.

Do only former interns get hired full-time?

No. While being an intern adds direct experience and creates an opportunity for advancement into full-time roles, it is not a requirement to apply for open positions.

What are the basic eligibility requirements to apply for an internship?

You must currently be a student in good academic standing, enrolled in a relevant program and actively working towards your undergraduate or advanced degree. For individuals not pursuing a degree, please review our full-time openings. Tesla believes in hiring the best talent in the world and will ensure opportunities are available to both students and non-students.

Do you have non-technical opportunities for students?

Yes. Please review our posted opportunities for a complete list of our technical and non-technical roles.

What degree programs do you hire from?

We recommend reviewing each position to see which programs might be the most applicable to your degree.

Does Tesla pay interns?

Yes. All interns receive compensation for their work.

If selected, does Tesla provide interns relocation or housing?

For most locations, Tesla will provide a relocation stipend to students when their academic institution is 50 miles or more from their work location. For those working at Gigafactory Nevada, intern housing is available in some cases.

If I’ve already graduated with a degree, can I apply for an internship?

For US roles, internships are created as a working opportunity for current students. Interns must be in good academic standing, enrolled in a relevant program and be actively working towards an undergraduate or advanced degree. Anyone who has already graduated is encouraged to apply to full-time positions.

In Europe, some countries will accept recent graduates according to local laws and regulations.
